The NYO lounge chair is designed with both comfort and modernity in mind, enhanced with a touch of local elements. The addition of the NYO lounge chair at a hotel lobby or a living room area would invigorate the atmosphere with a modern yet classic vibe. Made with a local Sarawak exotic solid wood species, namely the red meranti, NYO’s walnut-coloured finishing lends it a contemporary local look. The inspiration for NYO comes from a Sarawakian traditional cake called celorot which is visually translated into the design of this lounge chair, most evidently in its wide and rounded backrest. Based on how a celorot wrapper serves as a ‘self-jointing’ mechanism to keep the sweet dessert intact, NYO is a screwless design which adopts the traditional jointing method known as mortise and tenon.
